Guidence on Taxonomic Status

Taxonomic status is assigned when a generally accepted floristic or monographic account is available. At present only one account can be cited within the World Umbellifer Database, but this provides the first step towards a global concensus classification of the family. It should be noted that differing taxonomic views will result in conflicting classifications, and these cannot be efficiently incorporated into currently available database systems. Enforcing a concensus classification is thus very difficult and not necessarily desirable as it glosses over areas of taxonomic flux and gives a false impression of the state of knowledge of such groups.
