Membership


Membership is open to anyone interested in bryophytes. Detailed knowledge of the subject is not required and there is no entrance fee. If you wish to join, read the information below about methods of payment, and use either of two methods:

  • either complete an application form, and post with your payment to the Membership Secretary (address below);
  • or complete a credit card application which will be emailed directly to the Membership Secretary. (NB - emailed, so not a secure link)

    If you live in the UK and pay tax, please also complete and submit the gift aid declaration, to allow us to reclaim the tax on your subscription.

Annual subscriptions, due on application and on January 1st each year thereafter, are as follows:

Ordinary membership: £20.00
(Includes entitlement to Journal of Bryology and BBS Bulletin, as well as other services provided by the society.)

Concessionary subscription: £10.00
(A concessionary subscription, providing all the entitlements of Ordinary Membership, available to Senior Members (Ordinary Members who have been members of the Society for 40 years or more), Junior Members (Members who are under the age of 21) and Student Members (Members who are full-time students, irrespective of age))

Family membership: £1.00
(For any of the family who resides with an Ordinary or Junior member. Family members do not receive the Journal of Bryology but have all other rights and privileges of membership.)

Methods of payment (ONLY £ Sterling acceptable):

  • By £ Sterling cheque payable on a London bank.
  • By credit card mandate (ONLY Barclaycard, Visa, Access, Mastercard, Eurocard accepted). Cost to the Society of this method is 5% of subscription so include this in the mandate to make a total of £21.00 for ordinary members, and £10.50 for concessionary members.
  • For Standing Order mandate forms please contact the Hon. Membership Secretary.
  • Please note that both the collection and conversion of payments involves a cost to the Society and to the member, and this cost should be minimised as far as possible by prompt payment and choice of the most cost effective system of payment available. Cash is sent at sender's risk.
