This gazetteer has been compiled at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh for the use of researchers on the Flora of Bhutan Project. It is intended to be used primarily for pinpointing localities appearing on herbarium collections and other sources of plant records. For convenience specific maps (see introduction) have been used for the standard spellings of what we refer to as 'accepted' place names. During the course of the compilation other more recent maps have become available, but it has not been practical to change the accepted names except in more commonly used cases. This gazetteer is not intended as setting standard name spellings for the countries that it covers. Users are advised to refer to recent official regional maps to check on current orthography of place names.
