From coast to summit - Lochs and ponds

Loch with many species Upland Loch
The abundance and variety of plants in ponds and lochs is determined by the surrounding catchment area. In lowland lochs the water might be derived from lime-rich rocks or receive run-off from fertilized fields.
Upland lochs usually have different species. The water is often flowing in from more acidic rocks and there is frequently less sediment washed in.
