Genus Gonatozygon

Description:
Cells arranged in filaments which easily dissociate. Shape cylindrical, up to 40x longer than broad, sometimes with a median inflation. Apices flat and slightly dilated. Cell wall ornamented with small granules or papillae. Chloroplasts ribbon-shaped, pyrenoids arranged in central row (up to 15).

Occurs in the metaphyton of acidic lakes and ponds.
