Description: Cells single. Shape cylindrical with an obvious median isthmus and an deep incision in the rounded apex. Cell walls punctate or scrobiculate. Chloroplasts axial, starshaped in cross section, with pyrenoids lying along its long axis. Benthic in acidic pools or slow flowing streams, but also tychoplanktonic. Number of taxa in this genus: 5 worldwide, out of which 3 occur in Europe |
