Taxonomic Data from the World Umbellifer Database

Scope and Format of the Data

The data presented in these pages is limited by the level of completeness of the World Umbellifer Database. For some areas there is very good coverge, but for others there is very little authenticated information. A current assessment of the database is given in the World Umbellifer Database Homepage. When complete the following information should be present:

Nomeclature

Original publication: bibliographic citation for the place of valid publication. If this does not include any data then the original publication has not been authenticated. In these cases the unedited Index Kewensis citation is included  under 'Comments': this may contain suggested synonymy, suggested basionym, general geographic notes, etc. as well as the bibliographic reference for the name in question.

Types: for species and below the type specimens are listed with herbarium and type status (holotype, lectotype, etc.). An exclamation mark indicates that the specimen has been seen by the compilers, and absence indicates that the data  is from a literature source. When type status is not given this indicates that a lectotype may need to be chosen (or reference to a lectotypification has not yet been found). For taxa of rank above species the type taxon is given.

Basionym: for recombinations the basionym should be indicated.

Combination list: for names that have been used as a basionym a list of all the names based on this name is provided.

Classification
According to: a single reference to the taxomonic status of the name.

Accepted name: for synonyms the current accepted name is indicated.

Recognised Synonymist: for accepted names a full list of current synonyms is given.

N.B. Dates are in DD.MM.YYYY fornat, double zero entries indicate missing information, e.g. 00.00.1857 indicates the date was given to year accuracy, and  00.06.1976 only to month, etc.
